Its time for New success: weather satellite Launch by ISRO

General Discussion:
  • An Indian rocket carrying a weather satellite developed in  collaboration with France.
  • Name of satellite is  Megha-Tropiques Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle-C18 (PSLV-C18)
  • This was launched from the southern state of Andhra Pradesh oct 2011.
  • After its Launching it successfully put its direction.

    Satellite Weight:
    • The total weight of Megha-Tropiques  is about 1,000-kilogram
    • It is tropical weather monitoring satellite.
    • The Megha Tropiques and four smaller satellites which were part of the rocket's payload all successfully placed in orbit.
    • The three carried by the PSLV-C18 include the VesselSat from LuxSpace of Luxembourg which will help locate ships on the high seas.
    • The Name of these three are:
    • The 'SRMSat' from SRM University, Chennai.
    • 'Jugnu' from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur.
    • ' Vesselsat-1' from Luxembourg.
    •  The Height of Launched Satellite is 44 meter.

      1. According to Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) official BR Guruprasad said:
      2. It was the 19th consecutive successful launch by India's indigenously developed Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).
      3. French space agency Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales built three instruments for the weather satellite while a fourth was developed jointly with ISRO.
      COST:
      • The cost of the satellite mission:  5 billion rupees (about 101 million dollars)
