Hero MotoCorp has launched flex-fuel versions of its popular Splendor+ and HF Deluxe motorcycles, while Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the country's first mass-market flex-fuel passenger car, the WagonR Flex Fuel. These vehicles are designed to automatically adapt to varying ethanol-petrol blends without requiring any changes from the user.
The initiative aligns with the Government of India's vision of reducing crude oil imports, lowering carbon emissions, and strengthening energy security. Ethanol, produced from agricultural resources such as sugarcane and maize, also creates additional income opportunities for farmers and supports rural development.
To support the growing adoption of flex-fuel vehicles, India is expanding its ethanol fuel infrastructure, with plans to establish thousands of ethanol dispensing stations across the country over the coming years.
