CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY
(a) Nationality:
A candidate must either be
(i) a citizen of India or
(ii) a subject of Nepal or
(iii) a subject of Bhutan or
(iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 with intent ion of Permanently setting in India.
(v) a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and East African countries like Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambi, Malawai, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of Permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Certificate of eligibility will however not be necessary in the case of candidate who are Gorkhas subject of Nepal.
(b) Age Limit: 18 to 24 years as on 01 Jul 2018 (candidates born between 02 Jul 1994 and 01 Jul 2000 both dates inclusive). The date of birth accepted by the office is that entered in the Matriculation or an equivalent examination certificate. Note: No other document relating to age will be accepted and no subsequent request for its change will be considered or granted
Educational Qualification: Candidates studying in the Pre-Final year (in academic session 2016-17) of the Engineering Course in recognized Universities/Institution/Colleges in the subjects mention in para 3 below will be eligible to apply but must possess the education qualification at the time of joining training. The candidate should have completed all his examinations related to the award of degree, incl written, practicals, assignments/projects, viva-voce, backlogs, etc, before 01 Jul 2018.
The candidates who are unable to produce the Degree/Provisional Degree certificate at the time of joining the training will be inducted on Additional Bond Basis for recovery of the cost of training. In case they fail to produce the requisite Degree/Provisional Degree Certificate within 12 weeks from the date of commencement of training, their candidature will be cancelled. (d) Army HQ reserves the right to short list applications and fix cut off percentage of marks engineering stream wise, for preliminary screening and SSB interview, based on aggregate percentage marks scored by the candidates in the first two years/four semesters of the engineering degree course. (e) Physical Standards. (i) Height & Weight: The minimum acceptable height and weight for men is 157.5 cms with correlated weight. In case of candidates belonging to the North East and hilly areas like Gorkhas, Nepalese, Assamese and Garhwalis, the height will be relaxed by 5 cms and weight commensurate with reduced height. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum acceptable height can be reduced by 2cms. (ii) Visual Standards: The minimum acceptable visual acuity are: Distant vision (corrected) better eye 6/6, worse 6/18, Myopia of not more than minus 3.5 including Astigmation. Candidates who have undergone or have evidence for having undergone Radial Karatotomy to improve the visual acuity will be permanently rejected.
Candidates who have undergone Lasik Surgery for Correction of refractive error are acceptable subject to the following. (a) Their Age should be more than 20 Yrs (ii) Uncomplicated stable LASIK/Excimer (PRK) laser procedure done for Myopia or Hypermetropia, with stable refraction for a period of six months after the procedure. (iii) A healthy retina (iv) Corrected vision should be 6/6 in better eye and 6/9 in worse eye, with maximum residual refraction of + 1.50 in any meridian for myopia or hypermetropia. (v) Axial length within permissible limits.
(iii) Permanent Body Tattoos : Permanent body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of forearm i.e from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hand. Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body are not acceptable and candidates will be barred from further selection. Tribes with tattoos mark on the face or body as per their existing custom and traditions will be permitted on a case to case basis. (iv) To be passed fit, a candidate must be in good physical and mental health free from any disability likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duty. (v) Prospective candidates are advised to exercise and keep themselves physically fit, in order to avoid any injury due to the rigorous physical training at Indian Military Academy. In order to be able to adjust to the regime there candidates are advised to achieve following standards before joining the IMA, if finally selected:- (a) Running 2.4Km in 15 minutes (b) Push ups - 13 Nos (c) Sit ups - 25 Nos (d) Chin ups - 6 Nos (e) Rope climbing - 3-4 meters.
4. METHOD OF SELECTION:
(a) Received online applications of candidates will be forwarded to respective Command HQrs (b) Preliminary Screening test will be held in respective Command HQ. Preliminary selection of prospective candidates studying in the Pre – Final Year (Engineering) will be made by selection teams detailed by Command HQ for holding preliminary interviews at University/ College. (c) Integrated HQ of MoD(Army) reserves the right to shortlist applications recommended by Comd HQ in the preliminary screening. (c) Only shortlisted eligible candidates will be interviewed at Selection Centres, Allahabad (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bangalore (Karnataka) and Kapurthala (Punjab) by Psychologist, Group Testing Officer and Interviewing Officer.
Call Up letter for SSB interview will only be issued through candidate’s registered e-mail id and through SMS. Candidates will not be interviewed locally. Allotment of Selection Centre is at the discretion of DG Rtg, IHQ MoD (Army) and no request for changes are entertained in this regard. (d) Candidates will put through two stage selection procedure.
Those who clear Stage I will go to Stage II. Those who fail in Stage I will be returned on the same date. Duration of SSB interviews is five days excluding day of arrival and details of the same are available at official website of Rtg Dte www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. (h) Selected Pre-final year students would be granted Short Service Commission on probation from the date of their joining the final year class. (i) After successful completion of degree course the candidates finally selected will be admitted for Pre- Commission training at Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun for a period of 12 months.
5. MERIT LIST: IT IS TO BE NOTED THAT MERE QUALIFYING AT THE SSB INTERVIEW DOES NOT CONFIRM FINAL SELECTION. MERIT LIST WILL BE PREPARED ENGINEERING STREAM/SUBJECT WISE ON THE BASIS OF THE MARKS OBTAINED BY THE CANDIDATES AT SSB INTERVIEW. HIGHER EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, PREVIOUS PERFORMANCES, NCC BACK GROUND, ETC HAVE NO ROLE TO PLAY. THOSE IN THE MERIT LIST AND WHO COME WITHIN THE STIPULATED STREAM WISE VACANCIES, AND ARE MEDICALLY FIT WILL BE ISSUED JOINING LETTERS FOR PRE-COMMISSIONING TRAINING AT IMA. -
4- 6. MEDICAL EXAMINATION : A candidate recommended by the Service
MEDICAL EXAMINATION : A candidate recommended by the Service Selection Board will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers. The proceedings of the Medical Board are confidential and will not be divulged to anyone. However, candidates declared unfit by the Special Medical Board (SMB) will be intimated by the president of the Medical Board the procedure for request for Appeal Medical Board (AMB). Unfit candidates should report for AMB within a maximum period of 42 days. Candidates are advised in their own interest to appear for AMB well in time and should not wait for the last date given by the SMB. Candidates are advised to note that Recruiting Directorate has no role to play in Appeal Medical Boards and procedure advised by the medical authorities is strictly to be adhered to.
Candidates declared unfit by AMB will be intimated by the President, AMB about procedure to challenging the finding of AMB Candidates will also be intimated that Review Medical Board (RMB) will be granted at the discretion of DGAFMS based on the merits of the case and that RMB is not a matter of right. Candidates will be considered medically fit only on receipt of the approved Medical documents from Directorate General Medical Services. Note : Candidates are advised in their own interest to undergo a preliminary medical check up for wax in ears, DNS, defective colour vision, over weight/under weight, piles, gynaecomasties, tonsillitis and visicocle before reporting for the SSB interview.
7. ENTITLEMENT OF TRAVELLING ALLOWANCE: Candidates appearing for SSB interview for the first time for a particular type of commission shall be entitled for AC-III Tier to and for Railway fare or Bus fare including reservation cum sleeper charges within the Indian limit. Candidates who apply again for the same type of commission will NOT be entitled to travelling allowance on any subsequent occasion.
8. TRAINING AND PROSPECTS : (a) Selected candidates for UES - 27 Course will be detailed for training at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun according to their position in the final order of merit, discipline wise upto the number of vacancies available at the time. (b) Duration of training is one year. (c) Engineering graduates will be granted Short Service Commission (on Probation) and will be entitled to draw pay and allowances. Pay and allowances will be paid after successful completion of training. (d) Candidates will neither be allowed to marry during the period of training nor will be allowed to live with parents guardians. Candidates must not marry until they complete the full training at the Indian Military Academy. A candidate, who married subsequent to the date of his application though successful at the Service Selection Board interview or Medical Examination, will not be inducted for training. A candidate if he marries, while under training, shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the government. (e) Training at IMA at Govt expense.
9. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICES : (a) Candidates during the period of SSC will be given stipend at the rate of minimum basic pay of Lt. However the entire stipend will be paid in lump sum only on reporting for training at IMA. They will not be entitled to any other privilege or allowances or expenses in connection with tuition fee, text books, accommodation, messing and other allied services. (b) From the date of joining IMA they will be entitled to full pay and allowances and other benefits as admissible to regular officers. (c) Engineering graduates who possess the prescribed qualification will be granted one year ante-date for purpose of seniority, promotion and increments of pay.
10. LIABILITY OF SERVICE: Officers may be granted commission in any arms/ services and will be liable for service in any part of the world on selected appointments as decided by Army Headquarters from time to time.
COST TO COMPANY (CTC):
The CTC for a Lieutenant would be approximately Rs.70000/- per month. This includes Basic Pay, DA, Grade Pay Military Service Pay, Tech Pay, House Rent Allowance and Transport allowance. These rates are not statutory and are subject to change.
13. PRIVILEGES. In addition to the CTC mentioned above, Army provides free Medical Facilities for Self & dependents, Canteen facilities, Entitled Ration, Mess Club/Sports Facilities, Furnished Govt Accommodation, Car/Housing Loan at subsidized rate.
14. COST OF TRAINING : The entire cost of training is at Government expense. In case the GC is withdrawn from training academy due to reasons other than medical ground ot the reasons not beyond his control, he will be liable to refund cost of training @ Rs. 8785/- per week for the period of his stay at Officer’s Training Academy.
15. GROUP INSURANCE AND GRATUITY. The Gentleman cadets of IMA in receipt of stipend are insured for Rs 60 laces wef 01 Oct 2015. Those who net medically boarded out of Academy on account of disability, the disability cover provided for 100 per cent disability will be Rs 25 lac which is proportionately reduce upto Rs 5 lac for 20 per cent disability. However, for less than 20 per cent disability, only an Ex- Gratia Grant of Rs 50,000/- will be paid. Disability due to alcoholism, drug addiction and due to the diseases of pre enrolment origin will not qualify for disability benefit and ExGratia Grant. In addition, Gentleman cadets withdrawn on disciplinary grounds, expelled as an undesirable or voluntarily leaving the Academy will also not be eligible for disability benefit and Ex-Gratia. Subscription at the rate of Rs 5,000/- will have to be paid in advance on monthly basis by the Gentleman Cadets in receipt of stipend and will become members of the main Army Group Insurance Scheme as applicable to Regular Army Officers. Gratuity will be granted to the officers as per the latest rules in force.
16. LEAVE ENTITLEMENTS. On Commission, officers are entitled to 60 days annual and 20 days causal leave every year (subject to service exigencies). They are also entitled for 40% rail concession to any place and free travel (as per extant rules) for self and family. Leave during training period will be as per the Training Policy in force.
17. SPORTS & ADVENTURE. The Army provides facilities to pursue any sport of your liking. In addition, one can learn and participate in adventure sports, such as river rafting, mountaineering, hot air ballooning, hang gliding, Horse Riding etc.
18. PHYSICAL FITNESS. In Indian Military Academy curriculum, a lot of emphasis is laid on Physical fitness. You are therefore, advised to remain fit through physical exercises, sports, running, swimming, etc. so that you meet the training goals successfully.
19. STIPEND / PAY DURING TRAINING AT IMA: During the period of training the candidates will be given a stipend of Rs. 21,000/- p.m. (Rs. 15,600/- as pay in Pay Band Plus Grade Pay Rs 5,400/-). On completion of training Officers are commissioned as Lt and entitled to the pay scale as given in Para 11 above.
20. The final allotment of Arms/Service/Corps, at the time of passing out will be the sole discretion of Integrated HQ, Min of Defence (Army) keeping in view the existing policy. No representation is tenable on this account.

A page ‘’Application Form’’ will open. Read the instructions carefully and click ‘Continue’ to fill details as required under various segments, Personal informations, Communication details, Education details and details of previous SSB. ‘’Save & Continue’ each time before you go to the next segment. After filling details on the last segment, you will move to a page ‘Summary of your information’ wherein you can check and edit the entries already made. Click on ‘’Submit now’’ only after carefully ascertaining that the correct details have been filled in. After submitting, click on ‘’PDF’’ and take two copies of the application form having Roll No and other details generated by the system.
NOTE 1: Details once submitted will NOT be changed under any circumstance, and NO representation in this regard shall be entertained.

(d) Candidates will neither be allowed to marry during the period of training nor will be allowed to live with parents guardians. Candidates must not marry until they complete the full training at the Indian Military Academy. A candidate, who married subsequent to the date of his application though successful at the Service Selection Board interview or Medical Examination, will not be inducted for training. A candidate if he marries, while under training, shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him by the government. (e) Training at IMA at Govt expense.
9. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICES : (a) Candidates during the period of SSC will be given stipend at the rate of minimum basic pay of Lt. However the entire stipend will be paid in lump sum only on reporting for training at IMA. They will not be entitled to any other privilege or allowances or expenses in connection with tuition fee, text books, accommodation, messing and other allied services. (b) From the date of joining IMA they will be entitled to full pay and allowances and other benefits as admissible to regular officers. (c) Engineering graduates who possess the prescribed qualification will be granted one year ante-date for purpose of seniority, promotion and increments of pay.
10. LIABILITY OF SERVICE: Officers may be granted commission in any arms/ services and will be liable for service in any part of the world on selected appointments as decided by Army Headquarters from time to time.
COST TO COMPANY (CTC):
The CTC for a Lieutenant would be approximately Rs.70000/- per month. This includes Basic Pay, DA, Grade Pay Military Service Pay, Tech Pay, House Rent Allowance and Transport allowance. These rates are not statutory and are subject to change.
13. PRIVILEGES. In addition to the CTC mentioned above, Army provides free Medical Facilities for Self & dependents, Canteen facilities, Entitled Ration, Mess Club/Sports Facilities, Furnished Govt Accommodation, Car/Housing Loan at subsidized rate.
14. COST OF TRAINING : The entire cost of training is at Government expense. In case the GC is withdrawn from training academy due to reasons other than medical ground ot the reasons not beyond his control, he will be liable to refund cost of training @ Rs. 8785/- per week for the period of his stay at Officer’s Training Academy.
15. GROUP INSURANCE AND GRATUITY. The Gentleman cadets of IMA in receipt of stipend are insured for Rs 60 laces wef 01 Oct 2015. Those who net medically boarded out of Academy on account of disability, the disability cover provided for 100 per cent disability will be Rs 25 lac which is proportionately reduce upto Rs 5 lac for 20 per cent disability. However, for less than 20 per cent disability, only an Ex- Gratia Grant of Rs 50,000/- will be paid. Disability due to alcoholism, drug addiction and due to the diseases of pre enrolment origin will not qualify for disability benefit and ExGratia Grant. In addition, Gentleman cadets withdrawn on disciplinary grounds, expelled as an undesirable or voluntarily leaving the Academy will also not be eligible for disability benefit and Ex-Gratia. Subscription at the rate of Rs 5,000/- will have to be paid in advance on monthly basis by the Gentleman Cadets in receipt of stipend and will become members of the main Army Group Insurance Scheme as applicable to Regular Army Officers. Gratuity will be granted to the officers as per the latest rules in force.
16. LEAVE ENTITLEMENTS. On Commission, officers are entitled to 60 days annual and 20 days causal leave every year (subject to service exigencies). They are also entitled for 40% rail concession to any place and free travel (as per extant rules) for self and family. Leave during training period will be as per the Training Policy in force.
17. SPORTS & ADVENTURE. The Army provides facilities to pursue any sport of your liking. In addition, one can learn and participate in adventure sports, such as river rafting, mountaineering, hot air ballooning, hang gliding, Horse Riding etc.
18. PHYSICAL FITNESS. In Indian Military Academy curriculum, a lot of emphasis is laid on Physical fitness. You are therefore, advised to remain fit through physical exercises, sports, running, swimming, etc. so that you meet the training goals successfully.
19. STIPEND / PAY DURING TRAINING AT IMA: During the period of training the candidates will be given a stipend of Rs. 21,000/- p.m. (Rs. 15,600/- as pay in Pay Band Plus Grade Pay Rs 5,400/-). On completion of training Officers are commissioned as Lt and entitled to the pay scale as given in Para 11 above.
20. The final allotment of Arms/Service/Corps, at the time of passing out will be the sole discretion of Integrated HQ, Min of Defence (Army) keeping in view the existing policy. No representation is tenable on this account.
HOW TO APPLY :
(a) Applications will ONLY be accepted ONLINE on website “www.joinindianarmy.nic.in”. Click on” Officers Entry Apply/Login” and then click ‘Registration’. Fill the online registration form after reading the Instructions carefully. After getting registered, click on ‘Apply Online’ . A page ‘Officers Selection – Eligibility’ will open. Then click ‘Apply ’shown against University Entry Scheme.
A page ‘’Application Form’’ will open. Read the instructions carefully and click ‘Continue’ to fill details as required under various segments, Personal informations, Communication details, Education details and details of previous SSB. ‘’Save & Continue’ each time before you go to the next segment. After filling details on the last segment, you will move to a page ‘Summary of your information’ wherein you can check and edit the entries already made. Click on ‘’Submit now’’ only after carefully ascertaining that the correct details have been filled in. After submitting, click on ‘’PDF’’ and take two copies of the application form having Roll No and other details generated by the system.
NOTE 1: Details once submitted will NOT be changed under any circumstance, and NO representation in this regard shall be entertained.
NOTE 2 : The second copy of the printout of online application is to be retained by the candidate for his reference. No need to send any hard copy to DG Recruiting. Candidates must submit only one online application. Receipt of multiple online applications from the same candidate will result in cancellation of candidature, and no representation will be entertained in this regard. 22. Documents to be carried to the Selection Centre by the candidate:- (i) One copy of the Print out of application duly signed and affixed with self attested photograph. (ii) Self attested copy of Matriculation or equivalent certificate for age proof. (iii) Self attested copy of 12th Class Certificate & Marksheet. (iv) Self attested copy of Engineering Degree/Provisional Degree (v) Self attested copy of Mark sheets of all Semesters (vi) Certificate from the Principal/Head of the Institution stating that the candidate is in final year and att final exams will be over by 01 Jul 2018 for final year candidates. (vii) Equivalence certificate from the concerned university to claim equivalence to the notified stream. (viii) All certificates in original. Originals will be returned after verification at the Service Selection Board itself. (ix) Any candidate who does not carry these entire documents for the SSB interview, his candidature will be cancelled.
