Special GK Update:
- The 9th ASEAN-India Summit will be convened in Bali, Indonesia on 19 November 2011.
- The Summit will be chaired by the President of the Republic of Indonesia:
- H.E. Dr. H. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as Chair of ASEAN.
- and attended by the Heads of State/Government of the ASEAN Member States
- and the Prime Minister of India, H.E. Dr. Manmohan Singh. The Secretary General of ASEAN will also be in attendance.
- Brazil Sign TAC: Brazil to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and expressed hope that Brazil could complete its necessary domestic procedures in time to accede the TAC in June next year in Cambodia.
- Brazil has now become the first Latin America country to sign the TAC with ASEAN.
- The 19th ASEAN-EU Joint Co-operation Committee (JCC) Meeting was also held in Bali, Indonesia.
- Both ASEAN and EU looked forward to EU's accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) at the 19th ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting that will be held on 26 and 27 April 2012 in Brunei Darussalam.
Summit Moto:
- Efforts to maintain the peace, security and stability in the region and take stock on cooperation between ASEAN and India.
- The motto of ASEAN is “One Vision, One Identity, One Community”.
- The Summit also discuss on ASEAN-India cooperation related to connectivity, people-to-people contact, economic and trade relations, and efforts to narrowing development gap among ASEAN Member States.
- Special attention given to such issues like:
- Enhancing cooperation in disaster management
- Combating transnational crimes and non- traditional security issues as well as food and energy security.
- As well the Leaders of ASEAN and India exchange their views concerning the:
- ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit to celebrate, the 20th Anniversary of ASEAN-India dialogue relations in New Delhi, India.
INDIAN DIALOGUE:
- Addressing the India-ASEAN Summit in Bali, Dr. Singh highlighted:
- The need for greater connectivity.
- cooperation on security issues.
- Including maritime security, counter- terrorism, training, exercises and disaster management.
India and the 10-nation grouping of the Association of South East Asian Nations, Dr. Singh said, “I believe that our cooperation is on the right path. Given the global economic downturn, there is today an even greater urgency to our cooperation.”

- Accelerate the economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region through joint endeavours with Southeast Asian Nations.

- Promote active collaboration and mutual assistance on matters of common interest in the economic, social, cultural, technical, scientific and administrative fields.
- Provide assistance to each other in the form of training and research facilities in the educational, professional, technical and administrative spheres.
