Voter day special





Main Points:


  • 2nd National Voters' Day (NVD) observed on January 25,2012
  • the First One was on last year 2011 to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India and to enhance the participation of the voters , especially the youth, in the democratic process.

Some Interesting facts:


  • The reports of Voters' registration, approximately 3.83 crore new registrations have been done throughout the country, out of which 1.11 crore are in the age group 18-19 as on January 1, 2012.

  • Approximate  52 lakh young voters, who had attained the age of 18 years, had been enrolled in last year.
Total Working :
  • Past 60 years, the Election Commission of India conducted 15 General Elections to the Lok Sabha (House of the People) and 331 general elections to State Legislative Assemblies, thus facilitating peaceful voter working
  • The Former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will grace the second National Voters' Day function and distribute Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to 20 newly eligible and enrolled voters of Delhi, belonging to different sections of society, along with a badge "Proud to be a Voter- Ready to Vote"
  • The voter panel was set up Jan 25, 1950, as a constitutional body to conduct free and fair elections.
